Walk the Light, a walking meditation

Sunday, I started the day walking.  The weather today started at 13 degrees Fahrenheit.  So, I decided to go to a warm gym to walk the treadmill, finish with some yoga, stretching and 5 pound weights.  Using a Fitbit to track my steps and my sleep has been an added technology and gift of getting to know myself as well as being a part of an online community at times.

While walking outside in the neighborhood, on trails or while traveling, I find the observation of sights, sounds and scents have guided my mindfulness.  One of my favorite walking meditations included a walk at The Great Wass Preserve in Beals, Maine while on vacation.

It was a summer day but a beautiful, quiet, peaceful walk through trails that were marked.  The trail I chose to explore was called the Little Cape Point Trail.  I noticed many tree roots paving the path and beautiful green shades of color on this walk. Moss, fallen leaves, brown soil and grey bark surrounding.  There were man made wooden bridges (planks of wood in twos or threes) which I carefully walked with balance.  Large rocks and small short trees as well as tall majestic trees lined the Atlantic Ocean that neighbored this trail.

Red berries, white daisy like wild flowers among orange and green leaves were many.  Cotton like flowers I observed with wonder, taking the time to take a photograph.  Firm and strong large stone paths also carried me on this hike.  Then the Sea and the scent of fresh salt water and warm winds. Birds chirping with the sounds of waves of the ocean.  I could hear the bristle of the leaves. Many small rocks on this lookout.  Rocks with pinkish brown color, flat, round, of all sizes.  Light brown stones, and stones that appeared white.   Seaweed on the stones and a tall trees of many type, which I love.  I admire the woods, fir, pine, oak, evergreen trees.  I would like to know more about the trees.  If trees could talk I would love to learn the language.

The Lattitude I read on a sign, says that the Little Point Trail Shoreline is 44 degrees 29”51.173”N Longitude 60 degrees 35”20.569”W

I noticed there is another trail called the Mudhole Trail that borders the sea for the majority of the trail.  Taking it all in, I was eager to share my discovery with my love, Ken, my, spouse. I met  him at the AirBNB and told him all about my walk.   The next day we returned.

This walking meditation is where I go often, and sharing is a practice of guided imagery that helps reframe thoughts, feelings, and emotions.  The sight, smells and sounds I observe and noticed.  I felt the movement of my feet and my legs and my body.  I noticed my whole being accepting the Earth’s home in grace.

“I believe that true identify is found in creative activity springing from within.  It is found when one loses oneself.”  –Anne Morrow Lindbergh (1906-2001-American Writer and Pioneering Aviator).  This inspires me to explore this creative activity in me.
